The Polish Home Army finally rises up in Operation Tempest, hoping to push out the Germans before the Russians enter Warsaw. Yet the Nazis don’t leave, the Russians stay on the other side of the Vistula River and what’s more thousands of prisoners are released into Warsaw to kill every Polish civilian within the capital. The ZOB are ignored by the Home Army and the Communists and have to settle for joining the smallest force around, the People’s Army.
